My goal right now is either working in a start-up or small venture capital firm where I can help assess potential markets for technology firms. Another goal is working for a company that uses data mining to increase customer retention (like amazon or ebay), and help it improve its algorithms. My long term career goal is to become a physician. I am not only interested in the clinical aspect of treating patients, but am also interested in participating in clinical research and contributing to the efforts to improve global health. I would like to enter medical school for an MD/PhD program, probably in Texas, for that is where the majority of my family is from. I would also like to pursue a career in teaching higher education, and I believe MD/PhD programs would provide knowledge and combine both professions. Throughout high school and college, I have taught 1st graders at my church. This experience has helped me grow more than any before, partly because I learned to organize, plan, and enact my ideas from the ground up, and mostly because I found a passion in teaching.  More »

Upon graduation from Rice I plan to work with Dr. Gavin Enck at Mercy to build a clinical ethics department from the ground up, which includes creating documentation, protocols, and procedures for ethics consultations. In the face of such rapidly changing medical technologies, it is imperative that healthcare professionals understand the ethical implications of utilizing new technologies--as well as the moral consequences of violating ethical principles.  More »

I wish to be working on research and development of new and more efficient means of flying or space travel. I would like to potentially work on military technology. I have had a number of relatives in the military and have the utmost respect for what they do. If I was able to work on military technology I would not only be able to help keep the soldiers safe, but also work on technology that will likely move to the public sector and create benefits for all. Upon graduating from Rice, I hope to secure a position or internship at a non-profit organization focused on helping victims of domestic violence or sexual abuse.  I would hope to spend 1-2 years in this position, and then apply to law school. 10 years from my graduation, I hope to be a prosecutor in a large city working special victims cases.  I would also like to be on the board of a major non-profit organization that helps victims of domestic violence or sexual abuse.   More »

As a medical student and physician, I want to be more than just "smart." Instead, I want to be a doctor that can connect with others, work as a part of a team, lead by example, network, and maintain close relationships with her colleagues. Ten years from now I see myself holding an engineering degree capped off with an MBA and working as either a project manager or senior engineer within an energy company. Ideally my projects will be focused on developing innovative ways to reduce emissions and increase efficiency of energy harvesting. I hope I will write important news articles on national and international politics, report the truth from established sources (such as a United Nations spokesperson if I am writing an article about a new United Nations initiative), think critically about every word I write and its implications, contribute to humanitarian causes such as poverty alleviation through my reporting and anchoring, and train reporters on journalistic writing and ethics. My overall career goal is to contribute as a leader in an international company. I can envision myself working either in the U.S. or abroad in a Francophonic or Hispanic country, as I am bicultural/bilingual French and conversant in Spanish. The ultimate dream job, for me, might be working abroad for a global company managing a project that provides resources to a developing country. More »
