I would like to work in the field of sustainable development and poverty reduction, particularly as it relates to environmental concerns or resource management. I have been involved on campus as a member of Rice Engineers Without Borders (EWB) and as a Peer Academic Advisor. As co-project leader for one of the EWB project teams, I gained valuable experience by leading the design and implementation of a water distribution system for a rural community in El Salvador. I will continue my involvement with EWB in my new role as 2010-2011 External Vice-President. I am interested in learning leadership skills that can help increase the efficiency and effectiveness of public and non-profit entities in fulfilling their social aims.
